This puts the education debate in a whole new light, especially showing how little a district receives per pupil.

"What does $4.56 an hour buy?"

More like "Aren't our kids worth more than that?"

I tried finding it again with no luck. It was basically a local superintendent (Arcadia, CA) who was explaining that the district receives $4.56 per hour for a student and what that amount gets. It is sad that the state of California thinks our children are worth less than $5 per hour!

I don't have a unit of comparison to say if that is good or bad. Is the national standard/average higher? I'll ask a contact here...I know Guam's schools are badly underfunded.

California is mid to low -- we were 24th in 2006-2007 school year and have cut drastically since then. Also teacher costs are higher because of the higher cost of living in the state.
