State of California to Increase Withholding as of November 1, 2009

advertisement

ABX4 17 will increase state tax withholding in California as of November 1, 2009. Actual tax due is unchanged.

Bottom line, they want a zero-interest loan from the workers of California in order to solve their cash flow issues.

This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

As a payroll person, I encourage everyone to check their withholding requests (W-4 and DE-4). You CAN have the amounts be different. If you expect a refund and do not want to give the state a zero-interest loan, fill out a DE-4 increasing your exemptions (ie from single 2 to single 4). Filling out a DE-4 will NOT change your federal exemptions, just your state exemptions. The form is available on the EDD website (www.edd.ca.gov).

Thanks paxil. And you're welcome deccles. Please feel free to spread the word about this issue. I'm truly hoping that people will finally wake up to how this hurts them and have this plan backfire on the legislature. There are legal ways around what they are trying to do. We as citizens just need to be aware enough to take advantage of them!

As a native Californian this really is upsetting and as much as I love this state there seems to be no leeway for those of us who were born here. Our cost of living is increasing more and more and I don't want to move but somehow I feel that unless the rich stop moving here and taking over the state that we have no choice as middle class workers... but to move to some hick state in order to make ends meet. Its sad and borderline scary. When does this ever end??

I lived in Sherman Oaks and then Fountain Valley. California in my rear view mirror remains my fondest memory of the lovely Califiornicated metropolis!

We don't have income taxes in Texas. We have income from offshore drilling. Why don't you ask Diane or Nancy why Calif doesn't drill more of their vast offshore reserves. It might lower your taxes and also reduce US dependency. Drill baby drill!!

Bubba - actually, there is plenty of drilling off the coast of California but unlike Texas and Alaska (ironically red states), the people of California don't get any revenue from the oil companies that take our resources.

Why not? Out-of-state interest, mainly from Texas, ran untrue ads that mislead voters into voting against a levy from these oil profits.

So why don't you ask Sarah why it's ok for income redistribution in Alaska but not anywhere else in the country. Perhaps its that 'rugged individualism' that Alaska is so well know for.

CA hasn't issued an offshore oil lease since 1969. Lease revenues are what Texas and Alaska use to fund various programs including AK's direct citizen reimbursements. None of that has anything to do with income redistribution.

You are simply wrong if you don't think that taking revenues from oil sales and giving it to the people of that state is income redistribution.

Redistributing from whom to whom? The state owns the leases, the state is nominally comprised of all it's citizens. To sell mineral rights and give the proceeds to citizens is not income redistribution. If more of it went to various citizens due to their income or some other measure it would be but that isn't the case in AK or TX.

The funny thing is that Diversity's statement is ill informed. The fact is, US citizens are moving OUT of California. Illegals however....

But all that is irrelevant, It is obviously not the fault of California's governing policy. Those hicks don't belong in Cali. anyway! Such an advanced society is FAR TOO elite for such a business oriented productive (Oooops, I mean backwards) people. I bet those hicks don't even wear crystals to keep their chakra waves flowing in the harmony of gracious mother Gaia's natural rhythms.

And come to think of it, from Diversity's point of view it is indeed other states fault. You see if all the other states would pay California money to continue its @ssBackwards system of handouts and taxing the success out of small business owners, home owners, sodas, etc... then there wouldn't be a problem.

            Reform,

Shut your mouth, open your wallet, and close your eyes.

I don't know if I would blame the rich. Haven't the rich and famous always lived there and paid their taxes? I always figured californias problems were the people living there that didn't pay taxes and are getting all the free handouts. Seems to me if the rich left, the state would totally crumble. I doubt the middleclass workers there could handle the taxes that help support the illegal population.

Lets envision a system with 100% withholding. The government then could properly manage each person's taxes for them easily with little fuss. You work all year and at the end the government gives you your portion minus social justice adjustments up or down depending on your need. It would be very efficient and would finally solve the income inequality problem once and for all!

For some reason though this sounds familiar....
